HDP women: Semra Güzel is the will of the people

The Women's Assembly of the HDP made a statement to protest the lifting of Semra Güzel's parliamentary immunity.

The Peoples' Democratic Party’s (HDP) Women's Assembly released a written statement, saying that "the AKP-MHP male alliance obscures the multiple crises it has caused in the country through an absolute state of emergency and continues to escalate its attacks on women and the Kurds, who make the strongest opposition to the government. The lifting of political immunity of Diyarbakır Deputy Semra Güzel, which followed a persistent crackdown by the male-dominated war alliance, is a continuation of a political genocide operation."

'WOMEN WILL OUST GOVERNMENT FROM POWER'

The statement continued: "While those who lead corruption in the country, those who subject people, especially women, to poverty and violence for more profit and capital are not prosecuted, our deputy, elected by the will of the people of Diyarbakır, has been targeted.

We say once again to those who have been targeting our deputy: You will never subjugate women. Our struggle has always been a resistance against male-dominated powers. There is not a single woman who will surrender to your misogynistic policies."

The statement added: "We are aware of your efforts to remove women from professional life, politics and life. Our response to you is this: it is the people, the women, who will take back the responsibility that the people entrusted to women. You have a few days left. Women's politics, which you think you can stop by force, pressure and lifting of parliamentary immunities, will oust you from power.

We will continue to say 'Semra Güzel is our will'. Semra Güzel is the will of the people, of the women!"
