Journalists apply to Ministry of Justice to interview Abdullah Öcalan

A number of journalists have applied to the Ministry of Justice to interview Abdullah Öcalan in Imrali Island.

Journalists Nezahat Doğan and Dicle Müftüoğlu applied to the Ministry of Justice to be grante access to Imrali Island to interview Abdullah Öcalan.

Journalist Diren Yurtsever also applied to the Ministry of Justice by mail with the same request for an interview.

Dicle Fırat Journalists Association(DFG) co-chair, Dicle Müftüoğlu, made a statement on behalf of herself and the other journalists, and said that they have been following the discussions on the solution to the Kurdish question and added: "Many groups have made statements and we have tried to convey this to the public through our news. All parties make statements to the press live on broadcasts. However, we do not have the chance to directly hear and report Abdullah Öcalan's statements. We have partial information from the delegation that has gone twice to Imrali so far. It is for this reason that we have applied as women journalists to meet with PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan, the main actor in this process, so to have the possibility to listen first-hand his ideas on the process and the solution to the Kurdish question. As journalists, we have the duty to inform society and we want to ask Öcalan our questions at this point."

Dicle Müftüoğlu called on all journalists to apply for interviews in order to practice a more objective journalism.
