Kongra Star delegation visits JINWAR women’s village

JINWAR is the only village in the Middle East where only women live. It was opened on 25 November 2018 on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY

A delegation of the women’s umbrella organization in North-East Syria, Kongra Star, visited JINWAR village in Dirbêsiyê district and congratulated the women in the village on 8 March, International Women’s Day.

Kongra Star Hesekê Coordination member Şukriye Hisên stated that the construction of such a special village in North-East Syria draws the attention of the whole world to the role of women in society.

Foza Umer, member of Kongra Star Deir ez-Zor Coordination, congratulated all women of the world on 8 March and promised to continue the struggle.

The delegation planted saplings together with the women in the village to expand the green areas in the village.

JINWAR: Pilot project from a woman's perspective

The women's village of Jinwar is located in the west of Dirbêsiyê in the canton of Hesekê. The planning of the project started in 2016, the opening took place on 25 November 2018. Women of different origins live in Jinwar. In addition to Yazidis, Christians, Muslims, Kurds, Syriacs and Arabs, women from all over the world also take part in village life. In the village built by women, an ecological economy, women's solidarity and a common and free life were developed.
