Kurdish activists in Sydney and Melbourne celebrate 8 March

International Working Women’s Day was celebrated in the Australian cities of Sydney and Melbourne.

The Democratic Kurdish Community Center Women's Committee organized a celebration attended by hundreds of women in Sydney.

Speeches were delivered after a minute silence in memory of the martyrs of the Kurdistan. Among the speakers were former Green Party senator Lee Rhiannon and Socialist Women's Movement Susan Patrice.

The Organization Committee said: "We celebrate March 8 with the slogan ‘Time to defend free women and free society against the massacre of women’. We know that we can make our voices heard only with our organized power.”

Melbourne

International Working Women's Day was also celebrated in Melbourne.

The event here was organised by the Women's Association and started with a minute's silence in memory of the martyrs of Kurdistan and the world revolution.

Speaking at the celebration, NAV-KURD co-chair Gülbahar Aksakal saluted Abdullah Öcalan, “the leading figure in the liberation of women.”
