Swiss BastA! Party joins the international campaign requesting a meeting with Abdullah Öcalan

The Swiss BastA! Party has joined the campaign launched by the European Forum for Freedom and Peace (EFFP) to visit Abdullah Öcalan in İmralı.

A new campaign titled 'I want to visit Abdullah Öcalan' has been launched last week under the initiative of the European Freedom and Peace Platform (EFFP), calling for in-person visits to be allowed with Abdullah Öcalan at Imralı Prison. As part of the campaign, official requests will be submitted to Turkey’s Ministry of Justice. In addition, video messages will be shared on social media to support the appeal.

Franziska Stier, General Secretary of the ecologist, feminist and socialist BastA! Party in Switzerland, joined the campaign on behalf of her party and sent a letter to Turkish Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç requesting a meeting with Abdullah Öcalan.

The letter dated June 7, 2025, stated that Öcalan’s February 27 ‘Call for Peace and Democratic Society’ had broad repercussions internationally.

Describing the call as “a historic opportunity for building a livable world,” Franziska Stier said “we cannot fully understand his thoughts without establishing contact with Mr. Öcalan” and emphasized the necessity of holding the meeting without restrictions.

Stier added, “Democratic and egalitarian solutions must be created for the future of Turkey, Kurdistan, and the Middle East.”
