Rosa Women's Association appeals withdrawal from Istanbul Convention

Rosa Women's Association said that the annulment of the Istanbul Convention by a presidential decree was against the rule of law.

The Rosa Women's Association has applied to the Council of State demanding the annulment of the government's decision to withdraw from the Council of Europe Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence Against Women and Domestic Violence known as the Istanbul Convention.

The Rosa Women's Association stated that the international agreements duly put into effect have the force of law.

The petition said that the annulment of the Istanbul Convention by a presidential decree was against the rule of law.

The petition added that "the Rosa Women's Association has the capacity to file a lawsuit due to the legal benefit of the annulment of the decision considering the protection of women's human rights".

Stating that the withdrawal decision was constitutionally null and void, the association demanded the suspension of the execution and the annulment of the decision.
