Small textile workshops are a source of income for many women in Northern and Eastern Syria

Small textile workshops provide women with both employment opportunities and the opportunity to earn a living without needing anyone. One of these workshops is Ula Xelef's, where women's clothes are sewn.

Ula Xelef (22) opened a women's clothing workshop in Mansura city of Tabqa Canton of Northern and Eastern Syria 6 months ago. She said that although there are many ready-made clothes on the market, most women prefer to sew their own clothes.

Ula Xelef, who learned to sew from her mother in her childhood, decided to open a small workshop due to the economic difficulties they experienced after getting married and having 3 children.

Xelef teaches sewing to 3 adult women in the workshop. The eldest of these women is 50 years old and has completed the learning phase and started sewing. One of the other women is 30 and the other is 25. All three women joined to make ends meet.

Xelef told ANHA that she sees sewing as an 'art and profession', and added: “I have the desire and ability to sew a beautiful dress at every moment. My main goal is to grow this project to provide job opportunities for many women."

The workshop, which also meets demands from clothing stores, has 4 sewing machines and 4 women work to date.
