The story of a return from exile to the mountains

Amara Ronahi, whose family the Turkish state forced to leave Dersim, believed that a free life could be achieved within the PKK and joined the guerrilla ranks in 2011.

Undoubtedly, many peoples who did not deny their identity have faced massacres. The Kurdish people’s struggle for survival, freedom and existence brings out this truth into the open. With this in mind, brave, young women and men from Kurdistan have not bowed down but taken to the mountains. One of them is Amara Ronahi, a proud freedom fighter whom the fascist Turkish state tried hard to manipulate with dirty tricks. She never compromised with her stance for a single day during her struggle in the mountains for more than ten years.

The Laçin family from Dersim province had to move to big cities of Turkey due to the exile policies of the state. Gamze Laçin, a curious child of the family, got involved in party activities during her years as a student. The contradictions that emerged with her questioning of the system were strong enough to break her way from the fascist system of the Turkish republic. Believing that a genuine and free life lied in the Kurdish people's struggle, she decided to join the PKK in 2011, a decision marking a milestone in her life.

A CONSCIOUS AND STRONG COMMANDER

The brave Kurdish woman’s Alevi identity of Dersim helps her overcome all the challenges in the mountains. Her first mission takes place in the mountains of the province of Erzurum. Gamze Laçin takes herself the name of Amara Ronahi as nom de guerre in her new life in the mountains. She learns how to walk in the mountains. She learns how to live, survive and fight against the enemy in the mountains. She learns about the PKK's life from the likes of Ronahi, and the PKK's comradeship from the likes of Mahir. She gets familiar with the values of the PKK and the martyrs who created the PKK. She gets to know the beauty of the mountains here.

Her love for life guides her through the mountains. Her sensitivity toward life and her devotion to comrades always helps her get a head start on life. She never gives up questioning her aspirations and the contradictions of life that led her into those very mountains. On the contrary, she tries to find answers. On this basis, she constantly studies Öcalan’s philosophy and ideology. Confident with her belief in the struggle and ambition to succeed, Amara lives every moment of this sacred life to the fullest.

Her sensitivity toward life and her abilities in guerrilla life make her a commander at an early age. Ronahi always takes firm steps to lead her comrades. She believes in the power of women and makes serious efforts for the development of all her comrades, especially the female ones. Ronahi, who performs significant duties in Erzurum, Rojava and the Medya Defence Zones, falls a martyr in August 2022 in vicious attacks of the fascist Turkish state on the Medya Defence Zones. She leaves a great legacy with the moral values she created in the hearts of her comrades, and commandership in life and war.
