Ceni Kurdish Women's Peace Office's Kurdish Women's Culture Week, which focuses on the art and culture, identity, ideology and resistance character of Kurdish women, has started in Berlin.
Today (Monday 4 March) at 6pm, the focus will be on the traditional Deq (Tattoo) art of Kurdish women at Olivaer Platz 16, 10707.
On the first day, an art exhibition with the theme "The influence of the Jin, Jiyan, Azadî philosophy on women's art in Kurdistan" was opened to visitors, while a panel titled "Resistance art and the role of Kurdish women" was held.
The art exhibition includes Aslı Filiz's paintings, Kurdish writer Meral Şimşek's poems, Leyla Toprak's short documentary, Havîn Al-Sindy's clay art and drawing works. The exhibition will be open to visitors until 8 March.
The first day's panel, titled "Resistance art and the role of Kurdish women", saw the participation of Hevin Tekin, Leyla Ekinci and Havîn Al-Sindy. The panel was moderated by Esra Yula. The focus of the panel was how Kurdish women conveyed their resistance through art, their successes and the difficulties they experienced.
The second day of Culture Week continued with the promotion of "Traditional Kurdish dishes".
Kutilk, raw meatballs and stuffed vine leaves, were among the traditional dishes prepared by the Dest-Dan Women's Council. Members of the Dest-Dan Women's Council came together and cooked traditional Kurdish dishes together with German women and Oromo women.
Dest-Dan Women's Council member Seyran Batman said: "We introduced three traditional Kurdish dishes on the second day of the Kurdish Women's Culture Week. We cooked Kurdish dishes together with German women and women of other nationalities."
