The Free Women’s Movement (Tevgera Jinên Azad-TJA) met women’s organisations in Van province to determine the action program for the new period. The meeting held in Van Bar Association Tahir Elçi Conference Hall is participated by Muazzez Orhan, Van Deputy of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP); Gülderen Varlı, provincial co-chair of the Democratic Regions Party (DBP), Peace Mothers, prisoners’ families and a large number of women. Women the banners reading, “We defend life against femicide, freedom against isolation”, “We defend ourselves” (Em xwe diparêzin), “Time for women’s freedom” (Dem deme azadiya jinê ye).
Women danced halay and frequently chanted the slogan “Woman, Life, Freedom” (Jin, Jiyan, Azadi). Speaking at the meeting, Deniz Öztekin, a member of the HDP Party Assembly, expressed that it has been impossible to organise any meeting with broad participation due to the pandemic ongoing for two years. She stressed that they will hold talks with all women’s organisations to decide what to do in the forthcoming period.
