The Kurdish Women’s Movement in Europe (TJK-E) has issued a statement to condemn the sentence imposed on DTK co-chair Leyla Güven.
The statement reads: “The co-chair of the Democratic Society Congress (DTK) and MP, Leyla Güven, was illegally arrested in Turkey. She received a prison sentence of 22 years and 6 months as the result of a hostile regime and a politically motivated judiciary.”
The statement adds: “Leyla Güven is a woman who has dedicated her life to democracy and stands against oppression. Neither Leyla Güven nor women or Kurds will give up their struggle. On the contrary our anger is greater than ever! With this decision, the judicial authorities have once again shown that they are acting in the interests of the dictator [Erdogan].”
The statement continues: “This hostile decision is not only against Leyla Güven or the DTK, but against all women, Kurds and all democratic circles in the country. With this decision, the fascist AKP-MHP regime has once again committed a crime in front of the eyes of the whole world. It is time to say stop to dictator Erdogan. If not today, when?
As Kurdish Women’s Movement in Europe, we don’t recognise this illegal, hostile sentence.
We will continue our struggle until the real criminal, Erdogan, is brought to justice. We call on everyone to be the voice of Leyla Güven. Leyla Güven is our honor.”
