TJK-E: Women must lead the protests

TJK-E condemned the Kobanê massacre and called on women’s councils to take the lead in protests and unite in the struggle.

The Kurdish Women's Movement in Europe (TJK-E) issued a statement condemning the Kobanê massacre. On 17 March, 10 members of the same family were killed as the result of a Turkish drone attack against a village in Kobanê.

The statement said: "We received with deep sorrow and great anger the news of a drone strike carried out by Turkey on the village of Berxbotan in Kobanê, which claimed the lives of ten people, including eight children from the same family. At a time when peace has been placed on the agenda following Abdullah Öcalan’s call, we strongly condemn this massacre targeting civilians and those behind it. It is clear that those disturbed by this call are once again trying to sabotage the process."

The statement added: "As Mr. Öcalan warned, this was an act of sabotage designed to create tension among the people and crush hopes for peace.

These massacres targeting civilians and children in the region constitute war crimes and must be investigated by an independent international commission to expose those responsible.

As women of TJK-E, we will bring this atrocity to the forefront on every platform and call on our women's councils to take the lead in protest actions and unite in the struggle to hold the perpetrators accountable."
