Women from Tabqa discuss the concept of self-defence

Women in Tabqa Canton discussed the importance of the concept of self-defence for society and women.

The Women's Office of the Youth and Sports Council and the Young Women's Union organised a panel on ‘Women's defence in Tabqa’. In addition to women's organisations, the panel was attended by members of the Democratic Autonomous Administration of Tabqa and the Assembly of the Zenûbiya Women's Community.

Rola Henan, a member of the Young Women's Union, welcomed the participants at the panel discussion which was held at the headquarters of the Zenûbiya Women's Community Assembly. Then Roza Efrîn, a member of the Zenûbiya Women's Community, spoke on the concept of self-defence, which, she said, all living beings use to secure a safe life.

Roza Efrîn said that although many gains have been achieved as a result of women's struggle, many women are far from their goals, especially in economic, political, legal and other fields.

Roza Efrîn continued: "One of the reasons why women use self-defence is the patriarchal mentality that oppresses and weakens them. In order to eliminate this danger, women must show their reactions and follow the path of resistance and struggle."

Roza Efrîn stated that women should be educated in line with the ideas of Leader Abdullah Öcalan in order to defeat the genocide and occupation attacks directed against women and peoples.

At the end of the panel, the participants stated that the organisation of more panels and seminars would increase the belief of women. The participants also demanded that training in the use of weapons be provided.
