Women in Iskenderun claim the Istanbul Convention

Iskenderun Women's Platform, is holding a vigil for the Istanbul Convention every week. This week it drew attention to the importance of the Convention and said “we have no time to lose.”

The Iskenderun Women's Platform came together in Iskenderun, Hatay, to protest like every Thursday the withdrawal by presidential decree from the Istanbul Convention. Fatma Çınar, a member of the Iskenderun Women's Platform, read a statement and condemned the rape incident in Reyhanlı and said: "We do not recognize a system that makes rape a culture. This is exactly why we won’t give up. We are angry, we are in rebellion. We are millions and we won’t give up our rights, our lives and the Istanbul Convention.”

Underlining that the Istanbul Convention is a guarantor and a guarantee of life for women, Çınar continued: “We won’t give up our guarantee and we will make you apply it effectively. After 1 July [when the withdrawal will come into place], we will continue to struggle together. Our decision is clear. We not only want the Istanbul Convention restored, but also an emergency action plan to be announced in order to fulfil all the requirements of the Convention immediately. We have no time to lose."
