Women took to the streets in the Qamishlo Canton and the district of Til Koçer, vowing to enhance their struggle in the footsteps of martyrs.
The women’s umbrella organization Kongra Star organized a march in Qamishlo under the motto “Women’s organisation is a response to occupation attacks.
Representatives of political parties and civil society organizations attended the march in addition to hundreds of women, chanting the iconic slogan “Jin, Jiyan, Azadî” (Woman, Life, Freedom).
Addressing the crowd at the rally after the march, Kongra Star administrator Şaha Xelil denounced Turkey’s attempts to choke the popular revolution in North-East Syria by targeting the female leading figures in the region. “These attacks are a part of the genocidal policy directed against women and the revolution,” she said.
Referring to the Turkish attack that claimed the lives of the co-chair of the Qamishlo Region Council, Yusra Darwish, the deputy co-chair, Leyman Shouish, and their driver, Farat Toma, a member of the Cizire Canton Council, Xelil paid tribute to the martyrs who, she said, fought for years for their people and their freedom.
Calling on the peoples in the region to expand their organisation in response to the attacks, Xelil underlined that women’s organisation and revolutionary people’s war would be a response to the attacks.
Another protest march against Turkish occupation and increasingly ongoing attacks took place in Til Koçer district of Qamishlo Canton.
Kongra Star Til Koçer administrator Emel Ecîl denounced the occupation by the Turkish state and targeted attacks against those representing the will of women.
Emel Ecil vowed to increase the struggle in the footsteps of the martyrs.
