Women's Initiative ‘I Need Peace’ calls on Parliament to take concrete steps

Following a meeting with DEM Party MP Pervin Buldan, the women's initiative “I Need Peace” calls on parliament to take concrete legal steps to resolve the Kurdistan question and anchor peace in society.

The women's initiative “I Need Peace” held a meeting in Istanbul with the DEM Party MP Pervin Buldan, who is also a member of the Imrali delegation set up for dialogue with Abdullah Öcalan. The event focused on the role of women in the peace process, the need for legislative initiatives in parliament, and social democratization in the context of the unresolved Kurdish question.

Following the meeting on Sunday, which was part of civil society activities aimed at resuming a democratic solution process, the initiative called on the Turkish parliament to take concrete and legally binding steps to resolve the Kurdish question.

In a statement published on Monday, the initiative said: “We women, who have been fighting for peace for years, will continue to advocate for spaces to be created where our voices and demands are heard. The path to socially anchored peace requires concrete legal steps in parliament.

The initiative stated that it would “remain committed to peace and continue to discuss ways and means of achieving peace.”  It added: “We will also focus on anchoring the issue of peace more firmly in society and thus extending its impact beyond political institutions.”

The initiative announced that it would organize similar meetings in the future and develop new formats for dialogue.

The statement was made against the backdrop of growing public debate about new approaches to resolving the Turkish-Kurdish conflict and resuming negotiations with PKK founder Abdullah Öcalan. Several Kurdish parties and representatives of the DEM Party have also recently made similar calls for structural initiatives in parliament.
