The Kurdish guerrilla armies HPG (People’s Defense Forces) and YJA Star (Free Women’s Troops) went on the offensive at the beginning of the week and carried out extensive attacks on the Turkish occupying forces in the Zap and Metîna regions in the guerrilla-held Medya Defense Zones in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq). YJA Star was involved in all phases of preparation and implementation at a leading level, from planning and reconnaissance to close combat. The guerrillas not only respond to the occupation attacks by the Turkish army, but also consolidate their positions with military tactics. This year, YJA Star has proven its effectiveness, particularly in the resistance in the western Zap region.
In the run-up to the revolutionary operation against the Turkish army in the Girê Amêdîyê resistance area, ANF spoke to the YJA Star guerrillas. While the women guerrillas were making their preparations, they told ANF: "We are proud of our comrades who are resisting in the war tunnels. Their resistance gives us great strength. Therefore, we will now carry out actions in areas that the Turkish army is trying to take. We owe this to our martyrs, our people and Leader Apo [Abdullah Öcalan]. This awareness shows us the way. Our goal this autumn is to drive the Turkish army out of our mountains. We are convinced that our actions will be successful."
