YJK-S made a call asking everyone to participate in the Sakine Cansız Women’s Festival to be held in Zurich tomorrow, Sunday 25 June.
The 10th edition of the Sakine Cansız Women’s Festival will be held in the Kasernenareal area of Zurich on Sunday. The Swiss Kurdish Women's Movement (YJK-S) called everyone to attend the festival.
In a written statement, the YJK-S said: "The Sakine Cansız Women’s Festival is entering its 10th year paying tribute to the glorious struggle of women in Kurdistan and in the world. We are meeting in Zurich, on Sunday 25 June, with the slogan 'We are marching towards the women’s revolution. Jin, Jiyan, Azadi'.
The statement underlined the struggle of Sakine Cansız, and said that this year’s festival will be dedicated to KCK Executive Council member Evîn Goyi, who was murdered in Paris on 23 December 2022.
The statement added: “The festival is an opportunity to meet and pay tribute to the values of Sakine Cansız, a founding member of the Kurdistan freedom movement and one of the leading figures of the women's movement. We dedicate our festival to Evin Goyi, who was murdered in Paris last year by the fascist attack of the male-dominated mentality.”
The statement continued: "Women are continuing to build a democratic, free society. As a result of the attack by the invading Turkish state, two leading figures of the Kurdish women's struggle, Qamishlo Canton co-chair Yusra Darwish and her deputy Leyman Shiwesh, were killed together with council member Fırat Tuma. We condemn this attack.”
The statement called on “all peoples to attend the festival. Our festival is a call for 'justice' for Sara, Ronahi, Rojbin, Evin, Nagehan, Yusra Darwish, Reyhan Amûde, Leyla Amed, Jina Amini, Berta Caceres from Honduras and World March of Women activist Marielle Franco from Brazil as well as all women killed.”
The festival organizing committee is made up of YJK-S, TekoJin, Women Defend Rojava, Medico International, Frauen Lesben Kasama, ADKH, FIST, SKB, PDA, New Woman, FEDA, Frauenstrtreik, Kollektive Zürich, Solifonds, Frauenbündnis, WILPF, BFS, Brückenmedsch, BASTA, SP, AL.
