YPJ fighter martyred in Turkish attack in Tishrin Dam battle

During the historic resistance in the Tishrin Dam battle, YPJ fighter Avaşîn Rûstem Cûdî was targeted by a drone strike and a missile attack by the Turkish occupying state while fighting against terrorists.

The General Command of the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ) announced the martyrdom of one of their fighters, Avaşîn Rûstem Cûdî, during the historic resistance in the Tishrin Dam battle.

According to the YPJ statement on Sunday, Avaşîn Rûstem Cûdî was born in the city of Qamishli. She was among the pioneers who embraced the culture of resistance within the Rojava Revolution, building herself through this awareness and understanding. “From an early age, she recognized that our homeland and people were under relentless attacks and that the enemies of the revolution sought to destroy it. The adversaries also aimed to erase the concept of the brotherhood of peoples in the Middle East.”

The YPJ statement on Sunday said: “Avaşîn Rûstem Cûdî was a young woman of exceptional morals who grew up within her community. Her organized efforts in the field played a vital role in shaping the stances of our people in the region. She viewed protecting the homeland as a responsibility she must shoulder. Consequently, when the Turkish occupation launched its attack on Afrin, she decided to join the ranks of the protection forces. As a young Arab woman, she deeply felt the pain of Arab women in areas occupied by mercenaries and aspired to be a role model in resistance.

Through the intellectual and military training she received, Avaşîn came to understand the immense power of democratic unity among peoples. She prepared herself to serve the cause of socialist aspirations for the peoples of Syria. When the Turkish state and its mercenaries launched attacks on northern and eastern Syria, especially against the democratic nation project, she stood among the forefront of Arab women fighters in the ranks of the YPJ, joining the resistance with unwavering determination.

Her experience made her a pivotal figure in the Tishrin Dam resistance, where she played a significant role through campaigns as a skilled sniper, delivering impactful strikes on the enemy. Despite her humility in daily life, she possessed a profound understanding of the challenges facing her people and joined the resistance campaigns with clear purpose and awareness.

The women fighters in the ranks of the Tishrin Dam resistance, who continue to battle the occupiers, have achieved remarkable victories. However, the Turkish state resorts to drone strikes and missile attacks to target them. On December 19, the struggler Avaşîn Rûstem was struck by a drone and missile attack launched by the Turkish occupation army, leading to her martyrdom.

Our comrade Avaşîn Rûstem was one of the heroes of this resistance, and her name will forever remain in our hearts. We will honor her memory with the utmost respect and send our deepest condolences to her family, comrades, and our resilient people, especially the Arab community. We will carry on the fight to uphold the honor of our martyrs and preserve their legacy, reaffirming the struggle of the women’s revolution: “Woman, Life, Freedom,” which will stand as a beacon for humanity.”
