Fire at a ski resort hotel in Bolu countryside kills 66

A fire at a hotel in Kartalkaya Ski Center in Bolu province in northwestern Turkey has claimed the lives of 66 people.

A deadly fire erupted last night in a hotel in Kartalkaya Ski Center in the countryside of Bolu province, northwestern Turkey.

Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya reported that the death toll in the fire in the 12-story wooden Grand Kartal Hotel rose to 66 while 51 people were injured. One of those injured is in serious condition, receiving treatment in intensive care unit.

A large number of fire brigades from Bolu and Gerede continued to extinguish the fire, while holiday goers evacuated from the hotel were placed in four hotels in the city center.

Turkish Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç announced that 6 chief public prosecutors have been assigned and a 5-person expert committee has been formed to investigate the incident and its background.

On the other hand, four people have been taken into custody, including the owner of the hotel.
