The Munzur Festival Organizing Committee held a press conference at the Dersim Municipality about the next edition of the festival. This will be the 21st edition and will take place between 3 and 6 August.
Özkan Tacar, chair of the Federation of Dersim Associations (DEDEF), said that the Munzur Culture and Nature Festival, which will be held with the slogan "We protect nature and life against mining", will kick off on 2 August with the commemoration of Nazımiye (Qisle) Duzgun Baba.
Tacar said that the main theme of the festival would be the attack against nature and the struggle against mining, which makes life unlivable.
Attention to problems
Tacar said that the festival was first held in the 1990s to protest the problems and troubles experienced in Dersim, and added: "This is a festival that promotes democracy, environment, nature, belief and culture. We will put many issues on the table and offer solutions."
Tacar said that the festival will host exhibitions and folk dances, and added that it will address issues related to Alevism, current political developments, and will host women's events, talks about the earthquake, panels about the mother tongue. We will hold concerts every evening.”
