Cultural committee condemns deadly Turkish drone attack in Rojava

The Kurdish Cultural Committee in Europe condemned Friday's Turkish drone attack in Rojava as a "heinous terrorist attack." One person was killed in the attack and poet Ferhad Merdê was seriously injured.

The Culture and Art Committee in Europe released a statement condemning the Turkish drone attack in Rojava. The attack on a car in Tirbespiyê killed a member of the autonomous administration's security forces and seriously injured two other people. The identity of the dead man was given as Dirar Cuma Hemze. One of those injured is the well-known poet Ferhad Merdê.

The statement of the cultural committee published on Saturday said: "The resistance of the people was a slap in the face of fascism especially on Newroz in Kurdistan and abroad. The Turkish state cannot achieve its goals as an occupying power in the face of the relentless resistance of the guerrillas and is now openly attacking artists, intellectuals and writers. It has always resorted to measures such as arrests and murder of media and art professionals, and now artists and literary figures are attacked from the air in full view of the world public.

The attack on the poet Ferhad Merdê shows that the Turkish state is trying to hit the Kurds in all areas. As the Culture and Art Committee Europe, we condemn this terrorist attack with great disgust. This and similar attacks make our attachment to our work and struggle even greater. We extend our condolences to the family of Dirar Cuma Hemze, who was killed in the attack. We wish Ferhad Merdê and the other injured a speedy recovery."
