"Delila is an example with her struggle in every moment of life"

The Fertile Crescent Women’s Culture and Art Centre commemorated guerrilla and artist Delîla, and vowed to rekindle the path of the art of the democratic nation and a free and autonomous Kurdistan.

The Fertile Crescent Women’s Culture and Art Centre issued a written statement on the occasion of the anniversary of guerrilla and artist Delîla's martyrdom.

The statement is as follows:

"Culture and art have become the trail of societal and national adventures. No matter how much the fascist occupation raged with murderous blows at the historical and national truth of the Kurdish people, the Kurds protected nevertheless this rich history until current days with epics, tales and songs. When the Kurdistan Freedom Revolution set in, the PKK took the original Kurdish culture and art as the pillars of their historic struggle.

The PKK has become for this very reason the legacy of the contemporary Kurdish art and culture. Throughout the history of the Kurds and within the PKK we can observe that it is the women who protected and nourished this spirit more than anyone else. With her commitment to culture and art, women defied in the first place the physical and cultural genocide, enforcement of slavery and the terror of the invaders. With their struggle they hoisted the national spirit and tore the chains of slavery imposed on the women as part of her identity. Thus the sky above this country was filled with the voice of the art and culture of mother goddesses, resounding until our present days. From Meryemxan to Eyşeşan, from Mizgîn to Delîla has this voice never faded at all.

On 22 August 2007, when our comrade guerrilla and artist Delîla headed with a unit of 11 comrades led by commander Roza Mêrdîn to Southern Kurdistan to the Garzan region, a confrontation with the Turkish occupying state broke out at the border and the guerrillas fell martyrs. Delîla became a martyr together with comrade Roza, comrade Avesta and all the other 8 comrades, in this confrontation.

Martyr Delîla was a follower of all the martyrs like Mizgîn and Berçem. Like a nightingale of the high mountains she enthralled our nights and brightened up our days. With her enthusiastic and modest stance she opened the culture of free humans and free women to us. Delîla became an example for pursuing the struggle with her vivid and streaming spirit, and in every moment of life. To carry her voice with the sound of those like martyr Mizgîn to the mountains, the water, trees and all guerrillas, she set out for the heaviest embattled region of Northern Kurdistan. With her art, fight and struggle of life, Delîla has attained the very identity of the contemporary Kurdish woman. And therefore she made her name immortal in the art and culture of the democratic nation. Also we will light up our lives as those comrades like Mizgîn, Viyan, Berçem, Gulistan, Arjin and Delîla with the energy they bequeathed us and the beauty of their voices, and carry out a revolution of culture and art.

On the occasion of the anniversary of our artistic comrade Delîla, we, the Fertile Crescent Women’s Culture and Art Centre vow to march on the trail of their goals and rekindle the path of the art of the democratic nation and a free and autonomous Kurdistan. In the person of our artistic comrade Delîla we salute all freedom martyrs and take an oath on victory."
