Artist Fırat Med said: “I live aware of the responsibility to my land, nation, language and culture,” and added that the culture and art of a nation whose language and existence are denied will also be under pressure, but despite this, it is necessary to resist and work.

Born in Farqin, Amed, Fırat Med stepped into professional music with the album Spî published by KOM Music in 2013. After Spî, he released two more albums, Xeyal and Feqî.

Speaking to ANF, Fırat Med said: “I perform at events which I consider meaningful. Apart from that, I am trying to transmit music, language and literature and history to future generations. Music is my spiritual garden. I live aware of the responsibility to my land, nation, language and culture. I would like to especially emphasize the importance of language in the Kurdish art world and for the Kurdish people.

The complete extinction of a nation is possible with the extinction of its language. Since the Kurds are struggling for liberation, music and art have a direct connection with that struggle. If the language and existence of a nation is denied and suppressed, naturally, its culture and art will also be under pressure. Making the art of an unfree nation is harder, but it is also more rewarding.”
