Martyr Gülistan Tara Documentary Commune established

The Martyr Gülistan Tara Documentary Commune announced its establishment and plans for a 90-episode docuseries on PKK history.

The martyr Gülistan Tara Documentary Commune made the announcement through its social media accounts.

The commune emphasized that within the tradition of free press upheld by the Kurdish Freedom Movement, the pursuit of truth continues from Mazlum Doğan to Gurbetelli Ersöz, from Apê Musa (Musa Anter) to Halil Dağ, from Nazım to Cihan, from Kemal to Agit, and from Gülistan to many others. The statement highlighted: "As a necessity of the communication era we live in, this struggle now has a new front: the documentation of truth, the eternal preservation of lived experiences, and the need for an accurate historical narrative."

The commune, which is organizing itself across all four parts of Kurdistan and in the diaspora, stated that it is bringing together decades of documentary filmmaking experience rooted in the free press tradition, spanning nearly half a century. The statement also emphasized that efforts are underway to unify a vast archive and theoretical heritage under one umbrella. The commune declared that, with this new communal initiative, we are committed to strengthening documentary filmmaking efforts in Kurdistan.

Contributing to historical documentation

In its statement, the Commune emphasized: "The truth, guided by knowledge and documentation, will be made accessible to society through the power of visuals, transforming into a lived experience and a lasting value. Lived experiences will be preserved in collective memory, making a significant contribution to accurate historical documentation.

Our commune sees itself as responsible for uncovering all suppressed and distorted truths to enable the realization of a free, democratic, ecological, and women’s liberation-oriented society. Documentary filmmaking is not merely about presenting information; it serves as a preserver of memory, an educator, a guide, and a means of socialization in all aspects of life. It also plays a healing, constructive, and transformative role in shaping the conscience and mindset of a democratic society. These realities underscore the necessity of conducting documentary work in a more effective, widespread, organized, and professional manner.

For this purpose, under the name of the Martyr Gülistan Tara Documentary Commune, we declare our place within the tradition of free press, joining the relentless and arduous struggle for truth-seeking.''

Documentary on the history of the PKK announced

The Martyr Gülistan Tara Documentary Commune also said that, after nearly eight years of dedicated effort, its 90-episode docuseries titled "Kurdish Resurrection," which chronicles the history of the PKK, will soon be released in both Kurdish and Turkish.

Updates on the commune’s work can be followed through its social media accounts.
