According to local newspaper Partille Tidningen, 120 children in Sotenäs and Källvägen preschools celebrated the Kurdish new year Newroz along with the pedagogs, teachers and other personnel in the schools.
Swedish and Kurdistani children and children from other nationalities danced and sang in a big circle during the celebrations where balloons were put up in trees and three big candles were lit in a park in Sotenäs.
Namaz İzza Ali from Kurdistan who works in Sotenäs Preschool joined the celebrations in the traditional Kurdish clothes and gave a speech telling the importance of Newroz for the Kurds. Charlotte Svedstam, working in the same school, expressed that they had organised the celebration to bring the Kurdish and Iranian new year to attention.
The news story that mentions the importance of Newroz for the Kurds says they want to expand the concept of tradition in Swedish preschools and to show the public how other cultures and peoples celebrate their traditional holidays.
