Kurdish director, screenwriter and actor Abdulselam Kılgı was arrested while entering Turkey. He was traveling from Germany to Mardin. He was taken to the Anti-Terrorism Department of the Izmir Police Directorate.
Kılgı has become known in Europe through the film Meş. Kılgı co-wrote the screenplay with Shiar Abdî and acted in the film. The 2011 film takes place in the northern Kurdish city of Nusaybin and tells of the persecution and oppression of the Kurdish population after the military coup in 1980 from the perspective of a 12-year-old boy.
