The second edition of the Düsseldorf Kurdish Film Festival will be held from 23 to 27 April.
All ready for the second edition of the Düsseldorf Kurdish Film Festival that will be held from 23 to 27 April. The festival aims to celebrate the cultural diversity and artistic development that Kurdish cinema has achieved over the past 20 years. Organized by an independent initiative formed by cultural workers from various fields, this year’s main theme is the resistance in Rojava.
The films to be screened include works that explore both the historical background of the region and its current political and social conditions. The organizers noted that a special thematic focus will be placed on women's rights and the role of women. The festival will feature a total of 30 films, including documentaries, short films, and feature-length productions.
One of the highlights of the festival will be the German premiere of the film “The Virgin with the Child”. The screening will be held with the participation of director Berivan Binevsa and will once again bring attention to the identity, history, and freedom struggle of the Kurdish people. Many other directors will also attend the festival to participate in discussions with the audience.
In addition to film screenings, a series of cultural events and gatherings will take place throughout the festival.
Some of them include:
