Unity and solution conference to be held in August

Kurdish parties in Northern and Eastern Syria, who have been working for a long time for the solution of the Kurdish question in Syria and for unity, will hold a conference with broad participation in August.

Kurdish parties in Northern and Eastern Syria have been working since 2023 to solve the Kurdish question in Syria and for a common consensus.

The Democratic Union Party (PYD), the Syrian Kurdish Democratic Left Party, the Syrian Kurdish Left Party, the Kurdistan National Congress (KNK), the Syrian Kurdish Democratic Party (El-Partî) and the Kurdistan Democratic Peace Party, have established an Organizational Committee.

The committee met with all parties and prepared a draft regarding the solution to the Kurdish problem in Syria and a common stance based on the consultations.

The draft, prepared on 29 December 2023 and consisting of 14 articles, was shared with the public, opinion leaders, writers and intellectuals in March 2024, and received comments and and evaluations in the past four months. The draft was thus finalized in line with the suggestions received.

Talks continue

The draft was presented to the parties. According to the information provided to ANHA by the Committee, the vast majority of the parties in the region reached an agreement on the draft, only 4 parties expressed reservations on some points of the draft and did not accept the draft. However, talks with them are continuing.

The ENKS, which claims to be working for a solution but has always stood by the occupying forces and mercenaries, refused to participate in the Kurdish unity efforts from the beginning of the talks.

Conference to be held in August

A conference is planned to discuss the results of the work carried out. Speaking to ANHA, KNK co-chair Hêvî Mistefa said: "We are continuing preparations for the conference. Our talks with the parties that object to some points of the draft will continue before the conference. Even if they do not participate, we will hold the conference."

Hêvî Mistefa said that they plan to hold the conference before 15 August and added that the location as well as the number of delegates has not yet been determined.

Mistefa said that parties and prominent figures from the region will also be invited to attend the conference, and added that she was confident that discussions and suggestions will be made on the draft to allow a common decision.
