Eight-year-old girl missing in Amed for 19 days found dead

After 19 days of searching for eight-year-old Narin in Amed, the girl was found dead in a sack, dumped under stones and branches in a stream about one and a half kilometres from her home.

Narin Güran has been missing in Amed (tr. Diyarbakır) since 21 August. The eight-year-old, who lived in the rural village of Tavşantepe (Çullî) of Bağlar district, did not return home after Koran school. The girl was found dead in a stream this morning.

The Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, which has been investigating the incident, imposed a publication ban on news about Narin Güran on 29 August. On the same day, one of Narin's brothers, Enes Güran, was temporarily detained because his arm showed suspicious bite marks. Because it could not be clearly determined whether the bite marks came from a dog, as he claimed, or possibly from his sister who was killed, he was released again.

Due to the new evidence and allegations obtained within the scope of the investigation, Tavşantepe village headman and Narin Güran's uncle, Salim Güran, was arrested on 2 September on suspicion of intentional homicide and kidnapping. Traces of Narin's DNA are said to have been found in his car, but he has given contradictory statements. In addition, his mobile phone was switched off at the time of the child's disappearance.

According to the preliminary findings mentioned by the Governor Murat Zorluoğlu on Sunday, Narin Güran was put in a sack after she was killed and brought to the stream side, placed in the water in the sack, which was covered with tree branches and stones in a way that did not arouse suspicion and gave a natural appearance.

In the meantime, 21 people, including family members of Narin, were taken into custody today in connection with the investigation into the killing of eight-year-old Narin, whose body was taken to the Forensic Medicine Institute for post-mortem examination.

A curfew has been declared in the village along with a ban on entering and leaving. On the other hand, a grave for Narin has already been dug in the village.
