Mehmet Emin Karaaslan murdered Nilay Karaaslan in Edirne as they were in the process of divorce. The man killed his ex wife with a firearm in the market where she worked. Mehmet Emin Karaaslan later attempted suicide.

The police and medical teams could only determined that Nilay Karaaslan had already lost her life when they arrived at the scene.
