146 SDF members and 97 Damascus regime members released in Aleppo

An article of the agreement signed between the Council of Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyah Neighborhoods and the Damascus Administration came into effect. 146 SDF members and 97 Damascus regime members were released.

On April 1, the Council of Sheikh Maqsoud (Şêxmeqsûd) and Ashrafiyah (Eşrefiyê) Neighborhoods and the Damascus Administration signed a 14-point agreement, including the promotion of coexistence, protection of residents, prevention of armed actions and regulation of internal security. An article of the agreement envisaged both sides in Aleppo Governorate emptying their prisons and exchanging all prisoners captured during the conflict after liberation.

In accordance with the agreement, 146 members of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Women's Protection Units (YPJ) were released in exchange for 97 members of the Damascus government on Thursday.

The prisoners were exchanged at the Shihan Junction in the Asrafiyah neighborhood.

The ceremony was attended by the city's residents, who called for the unity of the Syrian people and an end to foreign interventions.

According to reports from the ground, the second group of prisoners will be released in the coming days.
