Former deputy Kurtulan sentenced to 10 months in prison

Former Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) Van deputy and deputy co-chair Fatma Kurtalan was sentenced to ten months imprisonment sentence in connection with earlier cases opened against her before her imprisonment.

The sentence verdict by Adana 8th High Criminal Court came following Kurtalan’s bearing testimony within the framework of five separate cases opened against her since she was arrested and put in Bakýrköy L Type Prison last January within the scope of so-called “KCK” operations.

Kurtalan, underlining that the imprisonment sentence is political, pointed out that the imposition of the sentence after her arrest is an evidence of the fact that the Turkish judicial system has turned into a mechanism of revenge.

Kurtalan noted that she was called to testify in prison for five times on the grounds of speeches she had made at various activities in the process of her deputyship and added that the opportunism and unlawfulness imposed on her is a reflection of the implementation that Kurdish politicians are subject to.
