The developments in Syria have brought the importance of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria back to the international agenda. Parliamentarian Fabian Molina, a member of the Swiss Foreign Affairs Commission, stated in a motion he submitted to the Federal Parliament that Rojava constitutes a critical line of defence for the region and is a structure that resists jihadist forces in particular.
Fabian Molina stated that the protection of Rojava is critical not only for regional stability but also for the defence of democratic values. He pointed out that Switzerland should make a stronger humanitarian and diplomatic effort to support this autonomous structure. “As the war in Syria escalates, Rojava remains a bastion of stability and democracy in the region and a bulwark against jihadism. However, this autonomous and federal structure is under serious threat from jihadist forces,” Parliamentarian Molina said and asked the Swiss Foreign Ministry to answer the following questions:
-How does Switzerland support the Rojava region in terms of humanitarian aid and infrastructure?
-What resources does Switzerland use to support the civilian population in Syria?
-What strategy is the Federal Council using to prevent further displacement?
