After the detention of Dindar Karataş, correspondent for Mezopotamya Agency (MA), following a morning raid on his home, the Van office of MA was also raided by the police. The raid was carried out by TEM Branch police acting on orders by Erzurum Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. The search was ordered as MA office is Karataş’ workplace.
The search of the office by police continues.
MA reporters Adnan Bilen and Cemil Uğur, who wrote about villagers Osman Şiban and Servet Turgut who were detained on September 11, and thrown from a military helicopter in Çatak were arrested together with journalists Şehbiran Abi and Nazan Sala on 6 October. During this detention operation, MA Van office was also raided by the police and news equipment was seized.
