Sırrı Süreyya Önder passes away

Sırrı Süreyya Önder, member of the Imralı Delegation, has passed away on the 18th day of his treatment in the intensive care unit of an Istanbul hospital following a cardiac arrest.

The Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Deputy Speaker of Parliament and member of the Imralı Delegation Sırrı Süreyya Önder was hospitalized on the night of 15 April following a cardiac arrest.

In a statement on Saturday, the Florence Nightingale Hospital said the following:

“On April 15, 2025, at 10:41 p.m., Mr. Sırrı Süreyya Önder was brought to our hospital by ambulance with no consciousness, respiratory and cardiac arrest, accompanied by cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The patient was immediately diagnosed with “Aortic Dissection” and underwent a Bentall procedure (aortic valve replacement and ascending aorta replacement) and single-vessel bypass surgery. Following the surgery, the patient's hemodynamic stability was maintained in our intensive care unit under ECMO (cardiac support device) and intensive medical treatment. The patient's condition deteriorated rapidly, with worsening neurological symptoms and progression to multiple organ failure.

On the 18th day of his treatment and monitoring in our intensive care unit, Mr. Sırrı Süreyya Önder passed away at 4:10 p.m. on May 3, 2025 due to multiple organ failure. We extend our deepest condolences to his family and all his loved ones.”
