The trial of Özgür Toplum (Free Society) magazine and Özgürlükçü Demokrasi (Libertarian Democracy) newspaper distributors Murat Karakaş and Leyla Yıldız was held at Adana 13th Heavy Penal Court on Friday. While the journalists did not attend the hearing, they were advocated by lawyer Tugay Bek who rejected the accusations of “aiding and abetting a terrorist organisation”, stating that the works of his clients did not constitute a crime.

While the lawyer demanded the acquittal of his clients, the panel of judges sentenced Murat Karakaş and Leyla Yıldız two three years in prison each.
