82-year-old seriously ill prisoner Mehmet Emin Özkan, who remained in Diyarbakır D-Type Prison despite all calls for his release, was eventually diagnosed with coronavirus. His son Ahmet Özkan also tested positive.
Mehmet Emin Özkan was taken to Gazi Yaşargil Training and Research Hospital in Diyarbakır on 8 December and was treated there.
However, he was brought back to prison on Sunday. Özkan's son, Nevzat Özkan, said that his father was taken to prison at his own request. Özkan said that his father had told the doctor that his condition was good and added that he didn’t want to stay in hospital. His request was accepted and he was brought back to prison.
