Because of the war and economic embargo imposed by the Turkish state in Kurdistan, thousands of Kurdish youth have to migrate to Turkish cities every year to find work.

Kurdish young people working in Turkish metropolises are losing their lives mostly because the lack of safety in many of the work places employing them.

The construction industry is one of the sectors where Kurdish young people is employed the most. Hundreds of Kurdistan young people, especially from Van, Bitlis, Agri, Muş, Idir, Kars, face hard and unsafe work conditions and many lose their lives in occupational murders.

In 2022, at least 63 Van workers fell victim to occupational murders in the construction sector. In the first 10 months of 2023, at least 21 Van workers died at work.

In the week of 3 October, three workers from Van died after falling in the construction sites employing them.

22-year-old Emin Yiğit, registered in the Elbak district of Van, fell to his death while working in a construction site in Antalya.

Salih Demirel, who was registered in Van Saray district Dolutaş (Caxsere), fell to his death while working in the construction of an apartment building in Konya on 8 October.

20-year-old Ali Ekin from Van, who was working as a courier in Istanbul, died in a traffic accident on 8 October while working.

Earlier, on 15 September, a young worker named Suat Cabir, who was registered in the Erdiş population and went to Istanbul to work, died as a result of a work accident.
