French philosopher and novelist Alain Badiou wrote a letter to Abdullah Öcalan, stating: "Our strongest wish is for your channels of communication to be opened."
According to Mezopotamya Agency (MA), Alain Badiou sent the letter to Abdullah Öcalan on 15 May 2025.
Responding to a letter from Öcalan, Badiou wrote: "Your letter contains something rare in today’s world, something concentrated in your formula."
The full letter, co-written by Badiou and author Isabelle Vodoz, reads as follows:
"Dear comrade Abdullah Öcalan,
Isabelle Vodoz and I thank you very much for your letter. Unfortunately, this brief document, written under the difficult conditions you are currently enduring, provides a very powerful insight into your thoughts and the writings and actions that accompany them. Your letter contains something rare in today’s world, something concentrated in your formula: ‘I have never given up, and will never give up, the search for justice, freedom, and truth.’
We often encounter so-called examples of ‘justice’ without truth or ‘truth’ without freedom, in which the active connection between the concepts of justice, truth, and freedom, and the demand for thought and action, is rejected.
We are also sensitive to the importance you attach to the dire situation of women in many countries, and to your insistence on relating this issue not in isolation but in connection with a new socialism.
Likewise, we share the same sensitivity in response to your words: ‘I am trying to respond to peoples’ desire for an alternative life against the assaults of Capitalist Modernity and imperialist maneuvers.’
Under these circumstances, our strongest wish is for your channels of communication to be opened.
We are with you all the way.
Alain Badiou
Paris, 15.05.2025"
