The number of civilian casualties is rising as a result of the mutual bombardments that began with Israel's airstrikes against Iran.
Direct clashes between Israel and Iran have reached a dangerous threshold with mutual attacks on the cities of both countries. At least six people were killed and seven were reported trapped under rubble in a 10-story apartment building in Bat Yam that was hit by an Iranian missile. At the same time, explosions were heard in the northwestern neighborhoods of Tehran. Iranian media reported that the capital's air defense systems had been activated.
Israel continued its airstrikes on targets in Iran throughout the night. The Israeli army targeted the Shahran oil depot in Tehran and a Defense Ministry headquarters in Isfahan. The attack in Tehran reportedly killed 60 people, including 20 children. Iran's representative to the United Nations announced that the total death toll was 78.
Israel sends ‘evacuation’ message to Iranian people
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and army spokesman Avichay Adraee addressed the Iranian people in messages posted in Farsi. The messages demanded that areas surrounding weapons production facilities be evacuated and that authorities be informed.
Adraee's video warning is being closely watched in the Arab world, as it was previously in Gaza and Lebanon.
Seven more high-ranking commanders killed in Israeli attack
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps reported that seven more senior commanders affiliated with the Iranian Air Force were killed in an attack carried out by Israel. Accordingly, the names of the commanders killed are as follows: Mahmud Baqirî, Davud Şêxyan, Muhammed Tahirpur, Mensur Sefer Pur, Mesut Tayip, Xesrew Heseni, and Cevad Cersra.
Iran responds harshly to the US
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi accused the US of supporting Israel's attacks. In a statement on Telegram, he said, “These attacks could not have happened without the knowledge and approval of the US.” Aragchi said the attacks sabotaged the new nuclear talks that were supposed to start between Iran and the US.
Warnings from the UK and EU countries
The United Kingdom's Foreign Office has announced a ban on all travel to Israel, saying: “The situation could deteriorate rapidly and without warning.” As Israeli airspace was closed, air traffic came to a virtual standstill. Additionally, travel bans were imposed on many areas in Gaza, along the Syrian border, and in the West Bank.
Reza Pahlavi calls for regime change
Reza Pahlavi, Iran's exiled former Crown Prince, described Israel's attacks as an “opportunity for regime change” in an interview with the BBC. Arguing that the Iranian regime is in a weak position, Pahlavi called on the international community to support the Iranian people.
Despite an attack on an oil depot in Iran's Shahran region, the National Iranian Oil Products Company announced that distribution activities are continuing. While the fire was brought under control, oil exports to Afghanistan also resumed.
