European Court of Human Rights finds Turkey guilty for not giving Öcalan's book to prisoner Aktaş

The European Court of Human Rights condemned Turkey after the application of prisoner Veysi Aktaş who said he was not given Abdullah Öcalan's 5-volume book series called "Democratic Civilization Solution".

A decision was issued on an application made to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) in 2016 by Veysi Aktaş, a prisoner in Imralı, together with Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan, from whom no news has been heard for 40 months.

According to Mezopotamya Agency, the ECHR decided on the application on 18 June, on the grounds that "freedom of expression was violated".

The court ruled that "freedom of expression was violated" and "Aktaş's right to receive ideas and information was prevented" by not giving him Abdullah Öcalan's 5-volume book set.

In addition, Turkey was sentenced to pay one thousand Euros to the applicant within 3 months.

A copy of Abdullah Öcalan's 5-volume book series called "Democratic Civilization Solution" was sent to Veysi Aktaş by mail, and the Imralı Prison Education Board refused to give the books to Aktaş on 6 October 2015. The board cited the Mersin Criminal Court of Peace's "ban" decision regarding the books on 14 August 2015 as a reason for not delivering the books.

After exhausting legal remedies in Turkey, including the Constitutional Court, Asrın Law Office took the decision to the ECHR on 6 December 2016.
