The hunger strike launched by political prisoners demanding the physical freedom of Kurdish people’s leader Abdullah Öcalan entered its 74th day. Öcalan has been kept in absolute isolation in Imralı F Type High Security Closed Prison since 1999. The prisoners on hunger strike also demand a political solution to the Kurdish question.
Abdullah Öcalan, Ömer Hayri Konar, Veysi Aktaş and Hamili Yıldırım, who are held in İmralı, have not been allowed to meet with their families and lawyers for 35 months. In order to end the isolation in İmralı and ensure the physical freedom of Abdullah Öcalan, the "Freedom for Abdullah Öcalan, solution to the Kurdish question" campaign was launched on 10 October 2023 with simultaneous press conferences made in 74 cities around the world.
As part of the campaign, which is in its fourth month, political prisoners went on hunger strike on 27 November.
