Political prisoners jailed in Turkey and North Kurdistan continue losing their lives as a result of state policies, severe conditions in prisons and negligence of the problems of ill prisoners.

Kurdish political prisoner Kulink Sevilgen died from heart attack in Bandırma T Type Prison No 1 in the western province of Balıkesir yesterday evening. Following an autopsy at Bursa Forensic Medicine Institution, Sevilgen's body was taken from hospital by his family who were also accompanied by executives of İzmir TAYD-DER branch and HDP Bursa provincial organization. His coffin has been sent to Mersin where his family lives.

TAYD-ER İzmir Branch Co-chair Musa Karbadağ, ÖHD lawyers Mecit Yıldırım and Fırat Sandalcı went to the Bandırma prison where they met the administrators and prisoners regarding Sevilgen's death.

Inmates in the prison told the delegation that Sevilgen's death was caused by a series of negligence by the prison administration.

According to the inmates, the ill prisoners are provided with nothing other than simple medicine when they visit the doctor in prison. They told that Sevilgen was not intervened when he fell sick because there was no doctor in the casualty ward and an ambulance came to the prison an hour later.

It has been learned that Sevilgen's cousin Celalettin Elçiçek, who was jailed in the same prison, has also lost his life because of health problems recently.

Remarking that the prison administration also denied Sevilgen permission to see his family for a last time, and rejected the other prisoners' request to call his family and inform them about his death.

Sevilgen lost his life at 01.00 but his family was told about it at 03.30 last night.

TAYD-ER İzmir Branch Co-chair Musa Karbadağ said the Turkish state was responsible for every death in prison which -he underlined- were a consequence of its fascistic approach towards the prisoners.  Karbadağ urged the authorities to take steps pursuant to the resolution process, stressing that the state had an actual intent for the increasingly ongoing deaths in prisons.
