Following news claiming that three girls under 18 are being held in solitary confinement in İzmir's Şakran prison as a punishment for being pregnant, HDP İzmir MP candidate Ertuğrul Kürkçü has met B.K. who is one of child prisoners in question.
Kürkçü said that the prison administration hadn't admitted the accusations, however, B.K. had made a complaint against the prison administration for not taking them to hospital in spite of their pains. Kürkçü stressed that an independent delegation must make an observation in the notorious Şakran Prison where rights violations are continuing.
HDP Mersin MP and İzmir MP candidate Ertuğrul Kürkçü, TAY-DER and ÖHD representatives have gone to Şakran Prison in order to make observations after DİHA's news claiming that three girls under 18 are being held in solitary confinement for being pregnant and have been denied medical treatment in spite of suffering labour pains.
The delegation met the administrators of Şakran Women's and Juvenile Prison and B.K who is one of the three girls held in solitary.
Following the visit, Ertuğrul Kürkçü made a statement on behalf of the delegation, saying that the prison administration had answered their questions about the incident by showing their documents. The prison administration had alleged that the situation reflected in the press was not true, Kürkçü said, adding; “I met B.K. who is one of the three girls. She said she had made a complaint against a guardian for mistreating her. B.K. told she stayed in solitary at her own request, however, members of ÇHD and ÖHD lawyers are going to meet the other two girls. Suspicion continues although the prison administration defends itself with documents.”
Kürkçü conveyed that the girls had never been taken to hospital despite their pains and complaints.
Kürkçü highlighted that an independent delegation must come to Şakran Prison to made observations, saying “This delegation must be made up of human rights defenders instead of investigation commissions chosen by governors in order to eliminate the doubts. During my personal works at Human Rights Commission, I saw that prisoners were generally right. Delegations to be formed must be able to see incidents from prisoners' point of views.”
