People in Dersim protest against attempted rape

Upon learning of a very disturbing accident that happened on Wednesday yesterday hundreds of people gathered in front of the police station in Ovacik (Dersim).

Riza Colak, former chairman of Justice and Development Party (AKP) Ovacik Branch, was allegedly found in a car half naked while trying to undress a fourteen years old girl said to be psychologically disturbed. Colak was accused of attempted rape. He allegedly threatened with a gun people who saw him and tried to stop him. After pointing the gun at a man who tried to stop him, Colak drove off and went to the police where he said he was under threat.

Yesterday demonstrations were organized immediately after the news spread of the attempted rape in Dersim and its districts Ovacik and Pertek. Colak has been arrested also.

As well as organizing demonstrations, shopkeepers have lowered the shutters in the districts. The demonstrators, who marched and launched a sit in to condemn the attempted rape, sat hours in front of Ovacik police station.

People in Pertek have also organized a protest demonstration to condemn another sexual abuse occurred in Pertek Anadolu High School. According to the allegation a teacher in the same school had sexually abused his second grade student.
