Nazlı Solgun, who lives in Iğdır, was detained in 2010. Solgun, who was on trial alongside 10 other people, was hastily sentenced to 12 years in prison for "being member of an illegal organization".
Yet, Turkish justice was not satisfied. While she was in prison, this time Solgun had a lawsuit filed against her accusing her of being part of the KCK, and she was sentenced to 10 years in prison. Thus, Solgun was charged with membership of two separate organizations with the same claims.
She attended only one of the hearings and the verdict was not read in her presence. However the State was still not satisfied and moved Solgun from prison to prison, constantly. The woman, who has been in prison for nearly 12 years, has been deported to many prisons. After Van came Bitlis, Erzurum, Elazığ and Tarsus. She is currently in Bünyan Closed Prison in Kayseri, central Anatolia.
Serious health problems
Solgun, who has very serious health problems, has cysts in various parts of her body, spots on the lungs, and allergies, as well as asthma and bronchitis problems.
Solgun's family asked for her to be transferred to a closer prison due to her health problems, but the request was rejected. She was deported to Kayseri after being operated in Tarsus prison.
Most hearings held without Solgun and lawyer presence
Talking about the legal and health situation of Solgun, her lawyer, Engin Kızılay, said that Solgun was not taken to all hearings and verdict was not read in her presence. Likewise many hearings were held without the presence of her lawyer.
Underlining that Solgun should be released immediately, Kızılay added: "Nazlı Solgun has lawsuits in Diyarbakır and we are trying to get the necessary information from there. There is a lawlessness here and she should be released immediately."
Solgun's sister, Birgül Solgun, said: "As her family, we asked for Nazli to be transferred to a prison near us, but the request was rejected and they sent her to Kayseri. Nazli is an honorable person and everyone should show sensitivity."
Solgun only taken to one hearing
Ufuk Demir, who was tried on the same file with Solgun in 2010, said that they went to 8 hearings and that Solgun was brought to only one. "The verdict was read in her absence and in fact, the decision had already been taken. Our friend Nazli has suffered a great injustice. Her defense in Kurdish was not accepted."
