PKK prisoner got a broken arm for refusing to be strip searched

It has been reported that guards in Tekirdað F Type Prison broke the arm of Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) prisoner Ýskender Karaman. Karaman opposed to be strip searched when he arrived to the prison. The PKK member has been jailed for 14 years and was transferred to the prison from Erzurum H Type Prison.

His nephew Yunus Karaman was able to learn about the incident only two weeks later. Karaman noted that his uncle and other three prisoners were subjected to inhuman treatment and physical violence during their transfer to the Tekirdað F Type Prison. "They were not allowed out of the vehicle for their needs. They were not even given water for 40 hours," tells Karaman.

Karaman says that harassment and insults continue in the prison. After the breaking of his uncle’s left arm upon arrival, the guards continues to threaten him daily. In addition, Ýskender Karaman was not allowed to go to the infirmary to get treatment for his broken arm. According to Karaman, the guards broke his arm to prevent him from writing letters. "They knew I wrote with my left hand and that I have no other way of communication apart from letters. They deliberately broke my left arm," says Karaman.
