Prisoner with brain cancer put in solitary confinement in Turkey

A Kurdish prisoner, who is suffering from brain cancer, is kept under solitary confinement in Sincan F Type Prison in Turkey.

Hayati Kaytan, who serves aggravated life sentence in Turkey, was put under solitary confinement despite suffering from a life-threatening form of brain cancer, his family said.

Kaytan was diagnosed with oligodendroglioma, a malignant type of brain tumor back in 2009. After extensive medical examination, Ankara Numune Hospital and Erzurum Forensic Medicine Institute gave him a health report stating that he cannot be kept in solitary confinement.

Kaytan also has multiple fingers and toes amputated. 

But recently Kaytan was transferred to Sincan F Type Prison and the prison administration put him in solitary confinement. After Kaytan’s objection, he was taken to Ankara Numune Hospital for medical examination.

Kaytan was kept in a cell at the hospital during examinations for 15 days. He was returned to Sincan Prison and unlawfully put in solitary confinement.

In his meeting with his family, Kaytan said that the prison guards don’t let him sleep by knocking at his prison cell door in every 10 mins. He is also denied of meeting with other inmates.
