Prisoners denied medical treatment in Düzce

13 prisoners in Düzce T Type Closed Prison have not been referred to hospital for two years.

13 prisoners in Düzce T Type Closed Prison take part in the hunger strike in prisons against the isolation of Kurdish Leader Abdullah Öcalan. Vedat Gültekin, one of the prisoners, stated that they will continue the hunger strike despite all the difficulties in his weekly phone call with his family.

Gültekin said that 13 prisoners have not been referred to the hospital for the last 2 years. “While ordinary prisoners are taken to the hospital, political prisoners are not taken. We have submitted several petitions, but the prison administration does not even respond. I am sick as well. Yet, I have not been taken to hospital. My condition is getting worse because I have not been treated. Our right to treatment should be recognized.”

Gültekin's family, protesting the maltreatment in prison, said, “We do not want our children's right to treatment to be denied. 13 prisoners have not been taken to the hospital for two years. If the prison administration has no money, we can pay it. Let our children be treated.”
